For sale we have a fully restored Sumo Andromeda Amplifier. This 200 watt per channel unit is in perfect working order, and it sounds amazing. Physically the unit is in excellent condition with only minor blemishes. There are no dings, dents or deep scratches as this amplifier has always been well cared for.
The amp has been fully restored as follows:
The unit arrived with one channel having blown fuses. Two shorted output transistors were the culprit. Upon research, we discovered that the original designer, James Bongiorno has spec'd out different transistors when designing the amp, but the owner of Sumo used inferior, less expensive ones. As per James Bongiorno's recommendation, we upgraded all 16 output transistors with new ON Semiconductor ones.
Replaced faulty transistors as necessary
Replaced shorted Bias IC chip
Replaced all electrolytic capacitors, including main filter capacitors.
The amp was then biased to factory specifications, and then sent to our bench for further testing.
In order to test the output and check to see the amp was in proper working order, we hooked it up to our Sencore PA81 Stereo Stereo Power Amplifier Analyzer acting as a dummy load and Oscilloscope interface. Using an audio generator, we ran a 1k signal through the amps input, slowly increasing the amplitude while monitoring the output on our oscilloscope for signs of noise, clipping, distortion, or improper channel balance. It checked out perfectly, and the amp easily produced a clean 220 watts per channel on our bench. Following the work performed on the unit, it spent time on our bench, and then in our house system for about a week running daily for 8 hours a day. It performed flawlessly.

We don't have the original box for this unit, but we take packaging and shipping seriously. We spare no expense and use heavy duty boxes, several inches of polyethylene foam on all sides of the unit, and use water activated, fiber reinforced tape on all seams.
