Mcintosh MX118 A/V Tuner Control Center w/Original Remote
For sale we have a Mcintosh MX118 A/V Tuner Control Center Preamp. We cleaned all the pots and switches, using Deoxit F5, and D5 respectively. We also installed new bulbs in the unit. Note that there is no phono section on this Preamp. While the unit may be obsolete as an A/V unit, it makes a great remote controlled stereo preamp, with an excellent Mcintosh Tuner built in. The unit tested perfectly. The only issue was on the Cinema sound setting is was noisy. On this setting the Dolby Pro Logic light comes on. We think the noise could be because we did not have it hooked up to a Dolby pro logic source. We used the preamp on our bench for a week, it performed flawlessly. We mostly used the FM Tuner as we have great radio stations here in Northern NJ.
Physically, the unit is in very good shape. The glass is intact, but there are some blemishes behind the glass as follows: Around the center display, you can see the blemishes, as well as over the bass control, and under the volume control. Also, the center window is a little "cloudy", which happens with time on this era of Mcintosh units. The display is bright and clear when the unit is on. The are a few light scratches on the tops and sides of the unit. With all this being said, the unit presents itself extremely well. Please see the pictures for further details.
Included in the sale is the Preamp, original Remote, and original owners manual.
We don't have the original box for this unit, but we take packaging and shipping seriously. We spare no expense and use heavy duty boxes, polyethylene, and or instapak when boxing up our gear for shipping. For this unit we will also cut an mdf or heavy duty cardboard board with four holes to lock the feet of the unit in place during shipping to keep it from shifting during shipping. This is the same process used by Mcintosh in their OEM boxes. It will protect the glass.
