For sale we have one of our favorite vintage Mcintosh preamps, the C26. This unit is now in perfect working condition, and very good to excellent physical condition. There are some scuffs and light scratches, but no dents or dings. The faceplate is in overall great condition, the only exception being that the volume knob has some blemishes on it. The unit needed work when we took it in. The faceplate was cracked, so we sourced a new one from Mcintosh, changed all the bulbs, and cleaned all pots and switches. The power supply board, and both preamp boards were recapped using modern electrolytics. Any faulty transistors and all electrolytic capacitors were replaced as needed. We also replaced the faulty Multicaps using ones sourced from Hayseed Hamfest, which also use high temperature modern electrolytic capacitors. All bulbs were replaced, and all pots and switches were cleaned and then treated with Deoxit F5 and D5 respectively. The unit sounds fantastic now, and has a great dual phono section. This C26 is ready for another 40 year run in the next owners system. See attached pictures for further details, including the shots on the inside of the unit showing the work we did on the preamp. The serial number on this C26 is 31P20
While we don't have the original box for this unit, rest assured that it will be packed with great care. We will make a custom box for the unit, including a 1/4" thick board with holes drilled out for the feet of the preamp to lock in during shipping. This will keep the unit from shifting during transit, and it is the same technique that Mcintosh uses in order to protect the glass fronts of their gear. Several inches of polyethylene foam will be used on all sides of the unit, and it will ship in a heavy duty box.
