Marantz Model 9 Monoblock Amps Fully Restored

For sale, we have the most coveted of Marantz Amplifiers, the Model 9's. This pair was acquired along with a Model 7 Tube preamp that is available as well.  

While we service most of the units that we sell, we were fortunate to have the extremely talented Ben Hase of Novalux Stereophonic do the work on these highly collectable units. Ben is very experienced, talented, and extremely intelligent. Anyone who is able to get a piece of gear that he has restored is very fortunate, as his work is impeccable. All efforts were made to keep the units as original as possible while setting them up for another 50 years of reliable service. The amps were originally purchased as a pair new with serial numbers 9-2786, and 9-2814. 

The following restoration work was performed on these amps:

Condition On Arrival: 

9-2814 -Drifted screen grid resistor on V8 socket. Poorly executed bias trimmer bypass. Incorrect bias sense resistors installed. 2.7 ohm instead of 3.3 ohm in same circuit. Poorly executed power supply rebuild with white multi-section cap on the outside of the unit. Dirty controls, bias meter not calibrated properly. Triode/UL switch replaced, missing caps.

9-2786 - Open V6 screen grid resistor. Poorly executed power supply rebuild with white multi-section cap on the outside of the unit. Dirty controls, bias meter not calibrated properly. --- 

Work Performed:

9-2814                                                                                                                                         

• Rebuilt power supply under chassis on terminal strips.                                                   
• Replaced all four axial electrolytic capacitors.                                                                   
• Replaced 150Vz Zener diode.                                                                                             
• Removed and cleaned bias meter trimmer, removed modification. Bias meter control restored. Replaced incorrect bias sense resistors and installed correct 3.3 ohm resistor as well. 
• Replaced Triode/UL switch with NOS Carling part. Installed missing capacitors.         
• Replaced all four screen grid resistors w/ NOS AB Carbon Comp.                                 
• Removed .22uF paper capacitor and replaced with period correct 600UE Good-All. 
• Re-tubed.                                                                                                                               
• Calibrated bias line to 55mA cathode current w/ bias probe.                                           
• Cleaned controls                                                                                                                   
• Tested all functions (Distortion results attached)

New Apex matched Mullard EL34's are included with the amp.

Physically the units are in very good condition, and the best examples that we have ever come across. There are some blemishes, however the amps are just beautiful. These amps have a timeless design, as Saul Marantz was an amazing industrial designer. Please see the many pictures in the listing for further details. 

The amps could ship ground, however we will most likely put them on a small pallet and ship them freight just to be safe. We will use heavy duty boxes and polyethylene foam to pack the amps. Shipping is included in the purchase price.
