Krell KSA-50 POWER AMPLIFIER
For your consideration we have a very rare Krell KSA 50 power amplifier. We always love getting in early Krell amplifiers and it does not get much earlier than the KSA 50. Made in the early 80's we acquired this amplifier, production number 327, along with a PAM 1 Preamplifier from the original owner. There are some scuffs and scratches on the top cover and some small marks on the faceplate, but overall, considering the age of the unit, it looks really nice and presents itself extremely well. The amp came to us with a noisy fan that we replaced with a new old stock one. The amp was recapped and new transistors installed in 2008 by Krell. We put the amp through its paces on our bench and then in one of our systems. It performed flawlessly.
One of the ten most significant amp of all time, Robert Harley of The Absolute Sound said the following:
The KSA-50 is significant more for being the first commercial product from then-newcomer Dan D’Agostino and Krell Industries. It established the “dreadnought” build-quality of massive power supplies, lots of output devices relative to the output power, and the ability to drive the world’s most challenging loudspeaker loads. The KSA-50 was the antecedent of a long string of great power amplifiers from Krell, and the product that forced other manufacturers to step up their games with regard to bottom-end slam and bulletproof construction.
