Classe DR-5 Preamp w/Phono Stage
For sale, we have a fine example of the Classe DR-5 Preamp in black, with gold lettering. Designed by David Reich, this was when, in our opinion, Classe made their best gear. The unit has an excellent Phono stage that will run both Moving Magnet, and Moving Coil Cartridges via a switch on the back of the unit. This all analog preamp is made using top quality parts, including a very high quality PC board. Also, the large toroidal transformer is isolated from the rest of the unit with a metal partition. The preamp has both balanced and unbalanced outputs, and plenty of line inputs. We have been lucky enough to have a handful of Classe amps and preamps from this era come through our shop. The build quality is top notch on this unit, and it sounds fantastic, as we have been using the preamp in our house system for about two weeks.
As soon as we got the unit in we a thorough inspection of the inside for any signs of swollen capacitors, burnt resistors, and any other signs of stress. There were no signs of any damage, as has been the case with all the Classe preamps that we have had come through our shop. All switches and pots were cleaned and then treated with Deoxit D5 and F5 respectively.
Physically the unit is in very good condition. There are some small nicks on the top edge of the faceplate, and some blemishes on the cover of the unit. There are no dents, of signs the the unit has been mishandled. The DR-5 presents itself very well, and is a fine looking unit. See pictures for further details on the condition of the unit.
Included with the preamp is the original owners manual, and a power cord.
We don't have the original box for this unit, but we take packaging and shipping seriously. We spare no expense and use heavy duty boxes, several inches of polyethylene foam on all sides of the unit, and use water activated, fiber reinforced tape on all seams.
