For sale, we have a fine example of the Carver M-500T Magnetic Field Power Amplifier. This amp came to us in working condition, and it was in use by the original owner that we purchased it from.
On our bench, we opened the amp where it passed our visual inspection. Capacitors looked good with no bulging or signs of leakage. Resistors showed no signs of cracking or overheating, and the transistors showed no signs of damage. Next, we replaced the faulty power switch with a new one, as the original was only turning the VU lights on and off, and not turning the amplifier section off. We then upgraded the VU lights to LED, which run cooler, and provide better lighting.
We did and alignment on the amp as follows:
Power supply adjusted to factory spec of 74Volts
Biased Amp to factory spec
Calibrated the VU Meters to spec
We tested the amp using our Sencore PA81 amplifier analyzer. We ran a 1k sine wave into the amp, and on our scope each channel showed a clean sine wave. With the amp testing as it should, we then ran the unit in our bench for a day, and then in our house system for about a week. It's a great sounding, amp with plenty of power.
While working and calibrated to spec, the amp should be, and is a great candidate to be recapped at some point in the future.
Physically the unit is in very good condition. There some scratches on the top, front, right side of the unit, as shown in the pictures. There is also some dust along the bottom, middle, front of the faceplate. There are no dents on the unit, and it has been well cared for. The amplifier presents itself very well, and really is a great looking piece. See the many pictures in the listing for further details.
We don't have the original box for this unit, but we take packaging and shipping seriously. We spare no expense and use heavy duty boxes, several inches of polyethylene foam on all sides of the unit, and use water activated, fiber reinforced tape on all seams.
