For your consideration, we have a fine example of one of the best Preamplifiers Luxman has ever made, the 5C50 Preamplifier, from their Laboratory Reference Series. The Luxman Laboratory Reference Series line of units all have an extremely high build quality, and this unit is no exception. The Preamp came to us in very good physical condition, there are no dents, and the unit has never been dropped. The Faceplate is in excellent condition with only small blemishes, if any. The top and bottom panels had some small scratches that we touched up. We detailed the unit inside and out, followed by cleaning, and then treating all the pots and switches with Deoxit F5 and D5 respectively. The burned out white power indicator bulb, and the Red DC offset bulb were replaced with LED upgrades. We braided the bulb wires as the originals were, and soldered them directly to the posts where the original bulbs were. We did not cut and splice them.
We replaced all the electrolytic capacitors in the unit. including the main filter capacitors. We used audio grade modern electrolytic Nichicon capacitors throughout.
Lastly, the DC balance, and DC offset were set to factory spec.

Operationally the unit is in perfect working order, and sounds fantastic. It has an excellent phono stage. There are two MM phono sections where you can vary the impedance between 30k, 50k and 100k on each of the inputs. There is also a spot for an optional Moving Coil Module that did not come with the unit, but is available on the used market every so often. We don't have the original box for this unit, but we take packaging and shipping seriously. We spare no expense and use heavy duty boxes, several inches of polyethylene foam on all sides of the unit, and use water activated, fiber reinforced tape on all seams.
